Holden VE Sportwagon

(From Holden Press Release)

Holden’s New Sportwagon | super speed cars Puts Excitement Back Into Practicality

Sleek new sporty look for popular wagon
GM Holden’s sleek new Holden VE Commodore Sportwagon made its world debut today at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The new family vehicle takes VE Commodore’s award winning sporty design and engineering advances and integrates them into a stylish and practical wagon.
Technology
The concept model on display at the Australian International Motor Show also incorporates a V8 engine featuring Active Fuel Management (AFM) and E85 flex fuel capability. Active Fuel Management allows cylinders to turn off under light load conditions to improve fuel economy.

The engine on show runs the same spark ignition, with fuelling matched to the same equivalence ratio as Holden’s current production V8 engine. It is designed to match the power and torque outputs of its petrol equivalent. The use of AFM and E85 technologies in this motor show vehicle aims to highlight General Motors’ capabilities in new propulsion advances.

Chris Gubbey explains, “Showcasing an E85 fuel system in this vehicle makes a powerful statement about Holden and GM’s commitment to developing alternative energy sources that reduce our dependence on petroleum-based products.

“It also demonstrates that drivers of alternative fuel vehicles don’t have to sacrifice performance.

“Our sister brand Saab has led the way in promoting bio fuel technology to advance the public, political and commercial debate in this area. We want to add our voice to that debate whilst simultaneously looking at ways to further reduce fuel consumption in our existing engines.”

The current VE sedan range of vehicles on sale in Australia are all E10 compatible with Holden’s V6 engine built in Melbourne also converted to E24 in Commodores exported to Brazil.

In 2007 Holden added two new diesel engines to its product line up with the new 3.0 litre VCDi common rail turbo diesel for the Rodeo and Captiva’s 2.0 litre common rail turbo diesel. This adds to the diesel options already offered in the Astra range.
The higher cargo floor makes loading easier and a flexible cargo cover provides extra security for items stored in the back.

VE Sportwagon seats five adults in comfort and a 60:40 split in the rear seating row can be folded flat for storing larger items.
The motor show display model includes a roof mounted DVD player, Bluetooth capability, multi-function driver information display system and zone-based front and rear park assist systems – all currently standard on the VE Calais V-Series sedan. Features on the vehicle unique to the motor show include 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome window trim and unique interior colour combination.

VE Commodore Sportwagon’s pricing, model line-up and powertrain combinations will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date, but expect to see a similar type of strategy to VE sedan, with entry level cars, sports models and luxury models ranging up to the luxurious VE Calais V-Series.

Leading safety technology features such as ESP® will be standard across the range.

Holden’s Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Alan Batey, said, “Sportwagon breaks the mould for Holden wagons. It’s got great style, performance and practicality for families, businesses or both.
The Holden VE Commodore Sportwagon unveiled in Sydney today is a production-based concept vehicle. It is the first glimpse of the planned production model scheduled to hit Holden showrooms in the first half of 2008.

The vehicle draws on VE sedan at the front with a sleek and sporty silhouette at the back and is built on the same VE wheelbase. It is the third VE derivative after sedan and the newly released ute range.
Features

At the rear, Holden’s designers have cleverly created a wider opening by positioning the tailgate hinge well forward into the roof line. This has created a more vertical opening movement for the tailgate and reduces opening space required around the car.

Honda CR V

The Honda CR V | super speed cars adds to its compact crossover SUV credentials for the 2010 model year with refinements and upgrades to the exterior and interior, new features, better fuel economy, and more power.

Exterior styling enhancements include a freshened front fascia with a new grille and bumper design, a re-sculpted hood, and a new rear bumper shape. A 10-spoke alloy wheel design, standard on CR-V EX and EX-L, replaces the previous 7-spoke alloy wheel design. Interior improvements focus on new features and functionality. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® is now included on models equipped with the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™. Auto on/off headlights have been added to the CR-V EX-L and the front seats have wider center armrests on all models.

Upgrades to the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine improve power output to 180 horsepower (hp), a 14 hp increase. City/highway EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings increase to 21/28 miles per gallon1 (mpg) on 2WD models and 21/27 mpg1 on models equipped with Real Time™ 4WD – an increase of 1 mpg in both city and highway driving on all models.

“The CR-V provides many of the favorable aspects of a car and an SUV in a stylish, yet highly functional and capable vehicle,” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “For 2010, the CR-V represents an even better value with significant upgrades throughout the vehicle.”

While compact on the outside with a 103.1-inch wheelbase and a convenient-to-park length of less than 15 feet, the interior provides 103.8 cu-ft. of passenger volume (CR-V LX) for up to five passengers. Add in a cargo volume of 35.7 cu-ft. behind the rear seats and the CR-V creates a total interior volume that, from a space efficiency perspective, exceeds the U.S. EPA’s size definition for a large sedan of 120 cu-ft.

A wide range of interior updates for 2010 include modifications to the radio functionality and control layout, the introduction of new seat fabric textures and an upgraded interior door handle design with a rubberized grip handle. Revised trim panel sections for the steering wheel, gear selector, upper glove box and center console (navigation-equipped models only) serve to brighten the overall interior color theme. Models equipped with an ivory interior now feature a more passenger-friendly darker brown carpet instead of light brown.
The AM/FM/CD audio system integrates a dual tone gray/black color scheme with blue backlighting, replacing black. The CR-V EX-L (navigation and non-navigation models) receives a USB Audio Interface2 for direct access to music files on compatible devices using the vehicle’s existing controls.

Consistent with the new audio system backlighting, the background color of the Multi-Information Display (MID) now appears blue (previously black). The MID’s digital display functions, which include the odometer, trip computer and vehicle maintenance indicators among other features, for 2010 now include a compass feature on CR-V EX and EX-L (non-navigation) models. On navigation-equipped models, the newly added Bluetooth HandsFreeLink status and related functions are displayed in the MID.

For comfort, the driver’s and front passenger’s center folding armrests are each wider by 1 inch compared to the previous model. The front row storage zones continue to offer the same functionality with areas designed to accommodate items as large as a handbag between the seats to items as small as a mobile phones and music players on the retractable center tray table. A center console replaces the retractable center tray table on the CR-V EX-L with navigation.

A sliding 60/40 split second row seat with a 40/20/40 folding seatback offers cargo versatility by sliding forward to increase cargo space, folding forward to accommodate long objects, or folding and tumbling forward to create a large, flat cargo area. Maximum possible cargo volume measures 72.9 cu-ft. with approximate floor dimensions of 51 inches long by 39 inches wide (at wheel wells). Storage potential behind the rear seat is enhanced by a dual-deck cargo shelf (CR-V EX and EX-L) that can strategically accommodate items like a folded baby stroller on the lower level and groceries bags on the upper level. The second row seat includes a Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) child seat mounting system for all rear seat positions, allowing two outboard child seats to be installed or one center child seat.
The suspension is comprised of a front MacPherson strut layout and a rear multi-link suspension. The high-rigidity body and independent suspension offer a comfortable and engaging driving experience for a crossover SUV. State-of-the art noise absorption materials help to reduce engine and road noise for a quieter cabin.

The all-aluminum,16-valve, Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) i-VTEC engine integrates an “intelligent” version of Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control along with Variable Timing Control (VTC), which are sophisticated Honda valvetrain technologies designed to enhance fuel economy and power output while reducing exhaust emissions. The VTEC portion of the system hydraulically adjusts the intake valves’ rocker arms for lift and duration to help optimize engine efficiency for low- and high-RPM ranges. The Variable Timing Control (VTC) aspect of i-VTEC allows for continuously variable phasing of the intake camshaft, which helps improve engine torque, promote a smooth engine idle, and create an internal exhaust gas recirculation effect for reduced smog-forming emissions (NOx).

For 2010, power and efficiency improvements result from the engine’s compression ratio increasing to 10:5:1 from 9.7:1, fuel injectors with a finer spray pattern, larger intake valves, spark plugs with extended electrodes, friction-reducing piston rings, higher-precision timing sensor and a higher flow-rate exhaust system.

The CR-V comes standard with an electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission that uses an active lockup torque converter. Wide overall ratios help maximize acceleration in gears one through four and optimize fuel economy in its overdrive fifth gear.

Grade Logic Control helps to reduce gear “hunting” on hilly roads. The available Real Time™ 4WD system – ideal for enhanced traction on snow, rain, dirt roads and sandy conditions – sends power to the rear wheels when needed. Real Time 4WD’s always-ready and fully automatic dual pump system hydraulically proportions rear wheel torque via multi-plate clutches. The Maintenance Minder system will indicate that the dual-pump fluid should be changed at about 60,000 miles.

The CR-V is available in three model choices, each offered in either front-wheel drive or Real Time 4WD. Standard comfort and convenience features on the CR-V LX include air conditioning with air-filtration system, keyless entry, tilt and telescopic steering column, cruise control, power windows with auto-up/down driver’s window, power door and tailgate locks, AM/FM/CD audio system with four speakers, fuel economy meter and 17-inch steel wheels.

The CR-V EX adds a one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature, chrome grille and rear license plate trim, rear privacy glass, security system, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, dual-deck cargo shelf, audio system with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and six speakers, exterior temperature indicator, vanity mirror lights (new), digital compass (new), and 17-inch alloy wheels (new design).

The CR-V EX-L adds leather-trimmed seats and armrests, heated front seats, body-colored side mirrors and door handles, XM® Radio3, a USB Audio Interface (new), and auto on/off headlights (new). Available on the CR-V EX-L is the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Recognition and rearview camera, which also adds premium audio system with 7-speakers including subwoofer and Bluetooth HandsFreeLink, center console storage unit (replaces retractable center tray), and a 6-disc CD changer in the center console (replaces in-dash changer).

Colors for 2010 include Opal Sage Metallic (new), Royal Blue Pearl, Taffeta White, Glacier Blue Metallic, Polished Metal Metallic (new), Alabaster Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Tango Red Pearl and Urban Titanium Metallic. Interior color choices, determined by exterior color, include Ivory, Black or Gray.

The CR-V became the best-selling SUV in the United States with calendar-year 2008 results of 197,279, also placing it among the top-ten best-selling vehicles for that year. The CR-V is a global product for Honda and is sold in 160 countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. Aston Martin DBS

A luxury sports car: The Aston Martin DBS | super speed cars , upgraded by edo competition – a truly luxurious sports car.
The 12-cylinder flagship from Aston Martin already produces 517 horsepower and boasts a top speed of more than 300 km/h (186 mph). Improving on those numbers while underlining the elegance and beautiful design of this British knockout and strengthening its sporting credentials was the goal declared by edo competition.
The power output was tackled first. It was agreed that 517 hp and 570 Nm (420 ft-lb) are not quite enough. The engine control unit was modified via software recalibration. Thanks to a new high performance exhaust system, special catalytic converters and high flow air filters, power output was increased to an impressive 550 hp and 600 Nm (442 ft-lb). This is enough power to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph). As a matter of principle all modifications performed by edo competition are calibrated and verified on a dynamometer. This way the true power output can be documented.
The high performance exhaust system, which was specially designed for the DBS, incorporates butterfly valves allowing it to produce a fantastically rich and sonorous sound. They further help increase the British luxury coupe’s power and torque output. The exhaust comes with a programmable control system that monitors backpressure inside the exhaust and opens the 70 mm butterfly valves when a pre-determined level of backpressure is exceeded. The unique advantage of this system is that it provides good torque at low engine speeds without sacrificing top end horsepower. The exhaust system is made from stainless steel and the chromed exhaust tips accentuate the elegant design. The driver can adjust the sound of the DBS at any time using a remote control.
The edo competition sports suspension system for the DBS ensures exceptional ride comfort and superior driving dynamics. Thanks to its adjustability in height, compression and rebound damping, the setup can be matched to the customer’s driving style. The new suspension provides more cornering grip while improving high speed stability and comfort.
The interior design of the DBS can be spiced up with the available carbon fiber shifter and shifter console, or the customer can opt for a custom interior in any color or material he desires, including handmade leather interiors.
To provide superior levels of grip, edo competition offers exclusive wheel/tire combinations. Featuring a new wheel design, the DBS is equipped with a set of 21 in. racing wheels. The three-piece wheels come with stainless steel outer rims and the customer can choose the stock tire dimensions or go with a set of Continental tires in the following dimensions: 255/ 30 ZR 21 (front), 295/ 25 ZR 21 (rear)
Performance and safety are a priority, which is why edo competition has developed a new high performance brake system. Front: 405 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads. Rear: 380 mm rotors with 6-piston monoblock calipers and performance brake pads, including braided stainless steel brake lines.
As with all edo competition models, we set no limit to our customers’ imaginations. Special interiors or lavish leather upholstery, individual requests are accommodated and executed with quality.
All modifications are carried out exclusively at edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen.

Peugeot 908HY

Peugeot Sport presented a 908 | super speed cars  HDi FAP equipped with a hybrid power plant at the final round of the 2008 Le Mans Series at Silverstone.

Peugeot Sport profited from the final round of the 2008 Le Mans Series at Silverstone to unveil a 908 HDi FAP equipped with a hybrid power plant, featuring a kinetic energy recovery system. The 908HY was presented in a new, specific silver-grey livery and will provide a foretaste of what Peugeot’s next endurance racing challenger could resemble, although its use will depend on the regulations that will govern LMP 1 cars from 2009.

The 908 HDi FAP’s “HY” technology enables a proportion of the kinetic energy produced under braking to be either recovered or stored. In the case of a non-hybrid car, this energy is lost and simply dissipated in the form of heat via the brakes. However, when harnessed, it enables the vehicle’s efficiency to be improved in one of two ways:

* Enhanced performance with no increase in the amount of energy consumed, thanks to the combination of the stored mechanical energy and the energy produced by the internal combustion engine
* Reduced fuel consumption for the same level of performance, thanks to the availability of stored mechanical energy

The system featured on this demonstrator comprises three key elements:
1) A 60 kW gear-driven electric motor-generator which takes the place of the conventional starter motor
2) Batteries which permit recovered energy to be stored in 600 lithium-ion cells divided into 10 battery packs (six in the cockpit instead of the conventional battery and four on the left-hand side of the floor pan)
3) An electronic power converter (located in the rear part of the front left wing) which controls the flow of energy between the batteries and the motor-generator
The 908HY can be powered in one of three ways:

* Electric mode only (e.g. in the pit-lane)
* Internal combustion engine only
* A combination of the two
* In the course of a lap of Le Mans, for example, the system will recuperate energy for between 20 and 30 seconds. This energy reserve can be used for:
* Either delivering extra power thanks to an additional boost of 60 kW (80 bhp) for approximately 20 seconds per lap, either automatically when re-accelerating or when the driver chooses to make use of it (‘push to pass’)
* Or to reduce fuel consumption for the equivalent level of performance thanks to the mechanical energy recovered (between three and five per cent)

Michel Barge (Peugeot Sport, Director): “This hybrid 908 HDi FAP is in perfect keeping with the overall mission of our endurance racing programme which covers not only the challenge of competing, of course, but also the fact that as a car manufacturer we can use motor sport as a research and development tool for the Peugeot brand as a whole. After innovating through the use of our HDi FAP technology in competition, running a hybrid car in endurance racing would give Peugeot a chance to gain extremely valuable experience that would benefit the development of production cars. Whether we use this technology or not in 2009 will obviously depend on the details of the new regulations published by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.”

Porsche 911

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is proudly presenting a new top model at the pinnacle of its broad range of production sports cars: The new Porsche 911 | super speed cars Turbo combines far-reaching innovations in technology with fine tuning and supreme refinement in design. All key features of this high-performance sports car have been significantly improved, the new 911 Turbo combining a substantial improvement in fuel efficiency and lower weight with more power, even higher speed, and enhanced driving dynamics.
Particularly in terms of fuel economy and dynamic performance, the new top of the range 911 from Zuffenhausen now stands out even more than before from its competitors in the market. Porsche’s new top model will be presented to the public for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show from 17 – 27 September.

The heart and highlight of the seventh generation of the Turbo is the new power unit displacing 3.8 litres and delivering maximum output of 500 bhp (368 kW). The first entirely new engine in the 35-year-history of the Turbo comes with features such as Direct Fuel Injection and Porsche’s exclusive turbocharger with variable turbine geometry on a gasoline power unit. And as an option, the new six-cylinder may be combined for the first time with Porsche’s seven-speed PDK Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (Double-Clutch Gearbox).
Models equipped with PDK are also available with a new, optional three-spoke steering wheel with gearshift paddles as an alternative to the standard steering wheel with its proven shift buttons. Fitted firmly on the steering wheel, the right paddle is for shifting up, the left paddle for shifting down. In conjunction with the optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo both the gearshift paddle and the PDK steering wheel with its shift buttons come with integrated displays for Launch Control and the Sport/Sport Plus mode, which are however designed differently on the two steering wheels.

The combination of PDK, Direct Fuel Injection and turbocharging ensures an unprecedented standard of efficiency, agility, responsiveness and performance, the Porsche 911 Turbo reducing CO2 emissions versus its predecessor by almost 18 per cent and therefore ranking unique in its segment also in this respect. Depending on the configuration of the car, the new top model requires just 11.4 – 11.7 ltr/100 km (equal to 24.8 – 24.1 mpg imp) under the EU5 standard. And unlike most other cars in its segment, the new Turbo remains even further below the crucial level of fuel consumption for gas guzzler tax in the USA, the special tax imposed on cars with substantial fuel consumption. All this despite acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. Top speed, in turn, is 312 km/h or 194 mph.

The Turbo driver of the future will also enjoy a further improvement in driving dynamics, detailed enhancement of PTM fully controlled all-wheel drive and PSM Porsche Stability Management being further supported by new PTV Porsche Torque Vectoring available as an option. This makes the car even more agile and precise in its steering for an even higher level of driving pleasure.
Sales of the new Porsche 911 Turbo in both Coupé and Cabriolet guise are starting in Germany on 21 November 2009. The Euro base price without value-added tax and national specifications is Euro 122,400.- for the Coupé and Euro 131,800.- for the Cabriolet. The gross retail price in Germany, therefore, is Euro 145,871.- for the Coupé and Euro 157,057.- for the Cabriolet, in each case including 19% value-added tax and national specifications.

Saleen H302SC

Saleen pays homage to legendary mustangs with Heritage product line

• Two Heritage models boasting ‘Saleen built’ engines honor Mustang heritage
H302 produces 390HP and is currently in production H302SC produces 580HP with production starting mid-December
• Heritage line vehicles represent a new interpretation of the Saleen Aesthetic

Irvine, CA (November 13, 2007) – Today at the retired El Toro Marine base Saleen Automotive took the wraps off of its 2008 MY product to show the world why Saleen is and will continue to be America’s premiere niche vehicle manufacturer. Among the new ’08 MY products is a model line that has been coded H and features two new vehicles, the H302 and the H302SC. The ‘H’ designator signifies Heritage say’s Marques McCammon, General Manager of Saleen Automotive. “These models honor some of the great heritage of the Mustang in a way that is uniquely Saleen.”
The H line draws its inspiration from the late sixties Boss 302 Mustang and is a real compliment to the Ford family Heritage,” says Saleen Vice Chairman and Chief Technical Officer, Chris Theodore.

The Hardware

Both vehicles feature an all new, Saleen built, 302 cubic inch engine that represents a marriage of race technology and production performance engineering. The evidence of this fact can be found in the hardware comprising the engine. Saleen started with 5 axis CNC ported cylinder heads, and then added a new forged crankshaft, forged connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, performance crankshafts, and high flow fuel injectors. The result is a 390 hp engine that provides the heart of the new H302. “The 302 engine is the best engine that we have ever done,” states Rob Simons, Saleen Powertrain Lead.

If the H302 has not harnessed enough horses for your taste, the engineering team at Saleen has added their patented twin-screw intercooled supercharger to serve as the core for the H302SC giving it a pavement pounding 580Hp and 525 lb-ft of torque. This engine when married to a smooth shifting, short throw, six speed manual transmission, gives the H302SC a performance profile comparable to any contemporary exotic but in a way that is truly American.

As with every Saleen, the new H line vehicles are more than just powertrains. Both vehicles feature custom Saleen Racecraft suspensions tuned specifically to the vehicles weight and horsepower profiles. The result is responsiveness and stability. “Many companies simply throw horsepower at a vehicle without adequate consideration to making the power usable. We look to find balance. That is the difference between Saleen as a manufacturer and the typical aftermarket tuner,” says Theodore.
Stopping power for the H302SC is delivered by standard 14” front vented slotted, rotors grabbed by 6 piston calipers. Control is augmented by the 4 wheel ABS and brake assisted traction control. Lateral stability is enhanced by a Generation 2 Watts Link system that is an option on the H302, and standard on the H302SC. Grip is provided by Pirelli wrapped 19” Forged aluminum Alloy wheels that are available in painted silver or chrome. On the H302SC customers can opt up for a 19” 7 spoke painted forged wheel. “The market has not driven a Saleen like our new Heritage line. They have great throttle response, they shift smoothly and they carve through the corners,” says Chassis and Dynamics Engineering Lead, Derk Hartland.
 Styling and Design

As with all Saleen vehicles the H line leaves nothing to be desired from a styling perspective. The H302 features eye popping aesthetics like the new front and rear fascias, rockers and heritage spoiler. The exterior package is rounded out by the matte black body graphics and the shaker hood which is featured on the H302. The supercharged model features a power bulge aluminum hood with functional cooling vents bringing function to form. On the inside, the unique seat trim features stone gray Alcantara accents and a laser etched shift knob.

Production and pricing

The H302 began production in October and the H302SC is slated to begin production in early December. The naturally aspirated H302 production will be limited to 500 units and the supercharged car will be more exclusive at only 200 units. Both the H302 and the H302SC feature a manufacturer’s bumper to bumper warranty; 3 years and 36000 miles on the H302 and 12 months and 12,000 miles on the H302SC. “We tried to make sure that we kept the vehicles attainable while maintaining their exclusivity,” says McCammon. The base price of the H302 is set at $56,999 with the H302SC slightly higher at $74,999.

“Customers will be delighted with the Heritage line and all the new Saleen products. They will be delighted because we are committing ourselves to surpassing their expectations. It is a new day at Saleen Automotive. It’s something that we call the Reawakening and the principle is simple. Give more than you promise,” comments, Saleen Inc President and CEO, Paul Wilbur.
ABOUT SALEEN

Since the company’s inception in 1984, Saleen has produced over 12,000 complete and EPA certified vehicles, more than any other specialty automobile manufacturer. In addition, Saleen has equipped more than 600,000 vehicles worldwide, further emphasizing their capabilities and commitment to excellence.

Saleen’s manufacturing facility is located in Troy, Michigan. The Michigan facility has just completed all paint and assembly of the Ford GT as a special project for Ford Motor Company and currently is providing paint and subassembly for the Dodge Viper SRT-10 as well as supercharging the new Ford F150 Harley Davidson pickup for Ford.

Skoda Superb

The Skoda Superb | super speed cars 123bhp 1.4 TSI petrol engine isn’t as slovenly as it sounds, but it will struggle to pull a heavy load. The pokier 158bhp 1.8 TSI is better. Don’t go near the thirsty 256bhp 3.6 V6. The diesels will be popular, but we’d avoid the rattly 104bhp 1.9. The 138bhp 2.0 has punch, but delivers it in one ungainly lump. The 168bhp version is more linear with its delivery of power, but more expensive.
The Superb Estate has a soft suspension that makes it comfortable over poor road surfaces. It stays settled on the motorway, too, so it’s a great cruiser. The soft ride means it feels a little wallowy through bends, but there’s plenty of grip to make you feel secure in corners.
The Superb isolates wind- and road noise really well, and the suspension stays quiet over bumps. Choose your engine carefully, though. Only the range-topping diesel is the latest generation common-rail diesel engine, so the other two units are older and noisier – particularly the 1.9. The petrols are smooth and quiet, but you’ll have to push hard with the 1.4.

Subaru EXIGA

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru | super speed cars automobiles, today announced the major highlights that will be displayed at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show 2009. On the theme of ‘Take a Moment to Free Your Mind”, FHI will showcase Subaru’s efforts to integrate enjoyable and dependable driving with the global environment.

Cadillac

2008 Cadillac | super speed cars  D3 Performance Exterior Package
D3 Cadillac, the leader in Cadillac tuning, introduces the new 2008 Cadillac CTS Performance Exterior Package. The exterior enhancements are not only exquisitely designed styling cues integrated seamlessly, they are functional as well. The front grill has a unique jewel like cut on the stainless steel wire mesh that signifies performance & class. The additional openings in the front allow for a larger surface area to induce adequate cooling for the engine compartment.

This is important when you start squeezing more performance out of this engine, as heat is a byproduct of making more power. Not only were the factory brake ducts maintained, but the front fascia also introduces double the cooling by adding an additional brake duct pick ups on each side. Notice the angled lip towards the lower edge of the front fascia. This angled edge has been designed and measured for just the right amount of down force without creating too much drag.

The side skirts offer a much more complete look and help transfer the styling from the front of the vehicle to the rear without loosing the theme of the design. The rear deck lid spoiler and rear roof spoiler help introduce down force at high speed while keeping the air stable coming off the backside of the vehicle. The rear lower diffuser helps keep the air uniform while passing the underside of the vehicle. While at speed the air is kept moving uniform rather than curling up behind the vehicle, often promoting rear end lift at high speeds.

kia forte

Kia Forte Koup |super speed cars has announced today that it will enter the Kia Forte Koup Kinetic race car in the 2010 GRAND-AM KONI Sports Car Challenge Series in the Street Tuner (ST) class. The Kia Forte Koup Kinetic was developed in collaboration with Kinetic Group and represents the manufacturers first entry in racing on the North American continent.

It’s really hard to compete with cars like the Civic and Corolla, but Kia is doing exactly that with the 2010 Kia Forte. Pictures don’t do it justice, but it’s actually a very attractive car, penned by a former Audi designer. A bit of everything thrown in – some Civic, some Sentra, some Corolla, and even some Volvo styling cues help the Forte achieve a conservatively aggressive appearance while still standing out on its own. Interior design is great. While not particularly engaging, the dash and controls are extremely well laid-out and easy to use, as are the steering wheel mounted controls. As in all Kias and Hyundais, it comes standard with the excellent aux/USB/iPod jack with iPod integration.
While other automakers are mired in the muck of one of the worst auto slumps in history, Kia is busy going about the business of reinventing itself. Flush with confidence after the recent successful launch of its all-new Soul, Kia has reloaded and is firing another shot across the bow of its competition with the 2010 Kia Forte, its new bread-and-butter car that replaces the Spectra.

Mercedes Benz CARLSSON

Carlsson has announced that it will shake the covers off its C25, which is the company’s “”first own-developed automobile” at the 2010 Geneva Salon in March. Known for being a Mercedes-Benz specialist, Carlsson actually built it’s own limited run super car using a whole lot of bits and pieces from Mercedes-Benz | super speed cars’ parts bin. Even though the tuner did not say which model the C25 coupe is based on, judging by the teaser sketches and the fact that it is powered by a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine, the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG. Horsepower is said to be 753 with 974 lb.-ft. of torque, propelling the car from 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and a top speed 219 mph.
Nevertheless, the drawings suggest that the C25 will have its own unique styling personality while the tuner claims that the same goes for the new interior that receives a generous use of real carbon, tanned buffalo leather and ultra-suede in special colors.

Underneath the sheetmetal, it’s all about tuning Mercedes-Benz’ running gear. Power comes from a tweaked 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that cranks out 753-horsepower and a mouth dropping 1,320Nm or 974 lb-ft (!) of peak torque that’s available at 3,750 rpm.
With that kind of power, it’s no surprise that Carlsson announces a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 353 km/h or 219mph. The completely street-legal C25 also gets ESP, ABS, airbag systems, an intelligent lowering C-Tronic SUSPENSION, 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels shod in 265/30 tires at the front and 325/25 at the back as well as 405mm slotted race brake discs at the front and 380mm race brake discs at the rear.

Renault Fluence

AN ATTRACTIVE, SPACIOUS ELECTRIC FAMILY CAR | super speed cars
· Fluence Z.E. Concept is a statement of Renault’s intention to produce a range of zeroemission vehicles that meet the needs of all types of customer. Fluence Z.E. Concept is a genuine family car which demonstrates that attractive styling, comfort and space can go hand in hand with respect for the environment.
· Fluence Z.E. Concept is an all-electric car with a range of 160km. The battery can be charged using one of three methods: a standard charge (between four and eight hours), a quick charge (20 minutes) or an immediate solution (three minutes) in the form of the exclusive ‘Quickdrop’ rapid battery exchange system.
· Fluence Z.E. Concept previews the forthcoming electric version of Fluence, and represents a solution to zero-emission motoring in the world of tomorrow.
A FAMILY FATHER LOOKING FOR AN ECOLOGICAL FAMILY CAR
You don’t have to be young, rich, single, trendy and living in the city to drive an electric car. Renault has proved as much with Fluence Z.E. Concept, a car aimed squarely at the single-car family father who would use the car every day to go to the office, but who would also want to take his wife and children to the country at the weekend. Therefore, the car needs to serve to an extent as a status symbol, but it must also provide enough interior space to function as a comfortable family car. The owner is environmentally aware, but wants to maintain his or her lifestyle and habits, too, without feeling guilty for it.

Fluence Z.E. Concept meets this need. This status-enhancing, ecological family car claims a range of 160km, while its battery can be charged on one of three ways, including the ultra-fast battery exchange option which takes less than three minutes. Fluence Z.E. Concept also allows the driver to make urban, country and motorway journeys with total peace of mind.
 ELECTRIC MOBILITY WITH A PASSION
The styling cues of Fluence Z.E. Concept combine the design language of motoring pleasure with the visual signature of Renault’s range of electric vehicles.

Fluence Z.E. Concept possesses dynamic lines, highlighted by a fluid character line which sweeps from the headlights to the rear shoulders. It is 4,820mm long, has a wide track of 1,672 mm, is wellproportioned and exudes status-enhancing, elegant looks.

Its identity as an electric vehicle is expressed through the graphic treatment of the cooling ducts, the fins of which are reminiscent of heat transfer surfaces, and this theme is echoed in different ways in the design of the headlights and motor cover. The photovoltaic cells located on the panoramic roof, dashboard and rear parcel shelf form a geometric grid pattern which has been carried over to the grille and seat upholstery.
Fluence Z.E. Concept also clearly belongs to Renault’s ‘family’ of electric vehicles thanks to:
- its Atmosphere Blue body colour,
- the specific luminous blue signature which features in the curved lower part of the body sides,
- the use of LEDs at the front and rear,
- the design of its headlights,
- the recess behind the logo on the bonnet.
The headlights convey the same impression of softness suggested by the vehicle’s overall lines and colour. They are a high-tech feature, too: beneath the ‘eyelids’ formed by the indicators, the beams of the main headlights are precise and piercing, with the light focused into a single beam by means of a system of prisms.

The vehicle’s status-enhancing credentials are further emphasised by the employment of chrome trimming for the belt-line and grille, as well as by its impressive 21-inch wheels. Blue polycarbonate hubcaps seem to slot into the aluminium wheels to create a spiral form which channels the airflow and improves aerodynamic performance.

LUXURY, HARMONY AND… ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Fluence Z.E. Concept’s warmly welcoming and refined interior is based on a combination of flowing forms, the use of soft, supple materials and a mottled ambience. Passengers are comfortably seated in four enveloping seats robed in light leather upholstery. The feet rest on a light blue translucent gel mat, while the brake and accelerator pedals, too, are covered in gel for a greater sense of comfort. When the doors open, the courtesy lighting recalls the luminous blue signature of Renault’s electric vehicle range.
The technology used for the dashboard is sophisticated and intuitive. A TFT (Thin Film Transistor) touchscreen displays multimedia information and essential journey-related information such as the navigation function and the location of the nearest ‘Quickdrop’ station. The display also provides data specific to electric vehicles, such as range optimization information, for example.
The centre console incorporates two floating armrests and forms a fluid, rearward-flowing arc. At the front, the integrated central front armrest includes the stop/start button, the air-conditioning and volume controls, as well as the new touchscreen Samsung Jet phone. This phone comes with a hands-free function, and also enables occupants to listen to music or enjoy a film on the screens which have been built into the front seatbacks. The central rear armrest incorporates the climate control and volume controls, plus another Samsung Jet telephone and two remote controls for the two screens.
Significant care has also gone into the design of the door panels: the door handles echo the rounded form of the centre console and the electric window controls are flush with the surface, while the viewing screen for the rear-view cameras is integrated discreetly yet effectively. Fluence Z.E. Concept is not respectful of the environment simply because it runs on electricity.
Indeed, the entire car has been thought through to optimize energy use:
- the photovoltaic cells meet part of the car’s energy requirements with a view to complementing the power supplied by the battery,
- the headlights use high-performance electroluminescent diodes which deliver an excellent trade-off between efficiency and energy consumption,
- the triple-zone climate control system allows occupants to achieve just the right settings for the two seats at the front and at the rear. The air vents also feature a dynamic lighting code, with blue representing the passage of cold air and red representing warm air,
- the car’s aerodynamics have been meticulously honed to minimize drag, including streamlined rear-view mirrors with integrated rearward facing cameras, a completely enclosed underside incorporating a diffuser at the rear, and spiral-form wheel rims,
- Fluence Z.E. Concept runs on low rolling resistance Michelin tyres.
Fluence Z.E. Concept is powered exclusively by an electric motor located near the front axle, in conjunction with a lithium-ion battery positioned between the rear seats and the boot. Renault’s designers and engineers worked closely together to develop a safe, practical vehicle capable of accommodating a large enough battery to ensure good range (160km), while also providing sufficient carrying capacity to cater for the requirements of an active family (327dm3).
 THREE BATTERY-CHARGING TECHNIQUES
The driver has three options when it comes to ‘filling up’ on energy:
· A standard charge: takes between four and eight hours, via a charging socket situated on the outside of the vehicle.
· A quick charge: in 20 minutes, using the same socket at specific charging points.
· The exclusive ‘Quickdrop’ system: three minutes at a rapid battery exchange station.
Fluence Z.E. Concept provides a foretaste of the forthcoming electric version of Fluence, and represents a solution to zero-emission motoring in the world of tomorrow.
